Young Serbian Bohemian | Painting

Acrylic and mineral paint on paper mounted on cardboard, 180x142cm. 2025

After the painting by Charles-Zaccharie Landelle, original (1872) held at the Musée d’Arts de Nantes.

The original painting depicts a teenager with a melancholy gaze holding a tambourine. Dressed in colorful traditional drapery and wearing a red cap, the model embodies the 19th-century fascination with the picturesque and exotic nature of the nomadic populations of the Balkans. Purchased by the French State immediately upon its exhibition at the Paris Salon in 1873, the work was deposited at the Nantes museum the following year.
