Workshop for Mauritanian artists hosted by the French Institute of Nouakchott and the Zein Art Gallery / February 2016
Around the theme of portraiture and self-portraiture, participants (artists and art students: Hamady Diallo, Idrissa Diop, Khadija Baba Ahmed, Mansour Kébé, Amy Sow, Béchir Malloum, Saleh Lô) were invited to work on self-representation and otherness. Cross-drawing exercises, the use of mirrors, and inverted representations were implemented to expand the pictorial possibilities. The workshop culminated in a series of small and medium-sized paintings on recycled cardboard with a limited color palette (brown, indigo, white, and black) that were produced and hung in the exhibition hall of the French Institute.
