Adam de Craponne (1526–1577) was a Provençal engineer and gentleman, famous for designing and building the canal that bears his name. By diverting water from the Durance River to Salon-de-Provence and Arles, he masterfully transformed the arid Crau plain into fertile agricultural land. As a pioneer of modern hydraulics, his genius permanently shaped the landscape, economy, and water management of Provence.
